I've wanted to buy different varieties of orchids, but it's been so hot, so I settled for more moth orchids, since they're more resilient.
Humongous things. I learned that in order to get the flowers this big, you keep the plant from blooming for two to three years. And when you finally let it bloom, they go "boom" and explode like this.

Wow, those are really big orchids. How do you keep them from blooming for two to three years? I bought ready-grown orchids from the shops but I never learnt how to actually grow them. Did you grow them from seeds or some kind of sapling? Maybe you could share some tips about growing orchids on your lovely blog if you could kindly spare the time in future?
Hi Snowdrops,
I bought them at a weekend flower market in Taipei. I started buying them last year and while I'm able to get them to keep growing leaves and new roots, I'm not sure if they'll be happy enough to grow new flowers come flowering season. We'll see!
