How's the view up there?

A pavilion on Green Island

Wouldn't it be nice to bring a book and some tea up there? I wonder what the view is like from there. Another endless stretch of ocean maybe? Another place to empty the mind. I need that right now.

Finally done with the tea stories. The 1'30'' stories have been airing one a day, and I think the full 30-minute program will air this Saturday or Sunday afternoon. The topic was really interesting, but the process was truly a nightmare. Nevertheless, new tasks, new challenges, new concepts to play with. It's been 19 days running through tea farms and burning the midnight oil, but I am happy and I feel lucky.

Make your own bread from rice

Maybe good for people (like me) who are supposed to stay away from wheat! Looks like fun. Reminds me of my bread machine days in college.

Rescue me, but take your time

I think I took this picture while waiting to be rescued. The electric bicycle the scenic administration office loaned me ran out of power when I was making the round-the-island ride on Green Island. Not a bad view to be stuck with!

Cooling off, Green Island style

It is nearly October and still over 30 degrees centigrade during the day in Taipei. Jumping in the deep blue sea off Green Island sounds really nice right about now. A big bowl of chilled douhua 豆花 with tapioca and brown sugar syrup would be good too, even if it is topped with seaweed. I like seaweed very much, but I think I prefer it dried or in my soup. I guess people in Green Island like seaweed any way they can take it. Even on shaved ice 挫冰.

Happy to be learning

I spent the first half the year in limbo - going nowhere, learning nothing and dying of boredom. I'm not sure if I'm going anywhere right now, but I am definitely busy beyond belief and learning a lot! I am

- making longer travel stories: 4'30'' instead of the usual 1'30''
- lighting: when to and when not to do stand-ups (talking in front of the camera)
- hosting: TV shows and events
- video editing: making Grandpa's party video
- photography: framing shots, paying more attention to light
- dealing with people: how not to completely blow up when people do unbelievable things
- spending more time with family

IQ and EQ points are both on the rise.

Some people say it's unbelievable how I am made to cover spot news, work the night shift, anchor on my time off, run around all over the country to make travel stories in different languages and to host programs, so I should get a 300% raise. But I think I'm lucky to be going through such intensive training and getting paid to do it.

For the first time, I see a bright future ahead of myself.

Hello from Taitung

After a morning of spot reporting (on medical malpractice) and 7 hours of driving down the windy highway along the eastern coast of Taiwan with a stopover in Hualien to have a quick dinner with Akio, our Hualien correspondent, we finally arrived Luye, Taitung.

We'll be staying here for two nights. Tomorrow, we'll be filming Taitung honey-scented black tea.

Scary months ahead

Seriously looked at my schedule for this month today. Half the time, I'm either on the night shift or out of town somewhere doing travel stories. And when I'm in town, I'm covering everyday run-of-the-mill daily news stories and writing the travel stories at the same time. And probably dealing with all sorts of unexpected drama too... The good news is, looks like I'll be losing weight.

Also just realized that November and December will be crazy too.

1. mayoral and council member elections
2. Flora Expo, a big event as it is, plus the scandals and mismanagement involved
3. Luzhou subway line starting up - if it's anything like the Neihu line when it first started, it'll be hell for users and the media all over again

Which means, I should probably try to squeeze in as many off days as possible next month. Somehow I don't think I'll be very successful at that. But I can dream, can't I?

Alive, but not quite kicking, yet.

Hello!

Slowly coming back to life. After coming back from Europe in July, it was one thing after another, one cold after the next, and now it's September. The intensity of "busy" just keeps increasing, and to comfort myself, I just think that tomorrow will be even crazier, so look at today as kid's stuff. That seems to work. Sometimes.

Busy is good. Busy is my life.

Let's see if I can remember what went on my life in the past two months, one picture, one video at a time. I edited my very first video! More to come soon. Please stay tuned. :)

:)
