Soba

The day after the concert, Mama, Grandma and Auntie Linda brought me to my FAVORITE そば (soba, buckwheat noodle) place, かんだやぶそば (Kanda Yabusoba). It was so hot that I actually had ざるそば (chilled soba) instead of やまがけそば (soba in broth with ground mountain yam). DELICIOUS!

That's Mama's very fashionable sleeve and hand there.

After soba, I went with Grandma to get a new mobile phone, and while waiting for her data to transfer over (all the pictures of Kaiser and Brandy and flowers took 2 hours to copy...), I went across the street to AU (my carrier, Grandma is Docomo) and got a new phone myself. I got the white and green one, same one as Oneesan. :) I wore a very cool green Karl Lagerfeld suit jacket from Mama that day.

(I almost bought an irresistibly cute black and yellow long wallet by Anna Sui yesterday, and I was wearing yellow nail polish. See a pattern? I resisted. Two trips to Japan in 2 months. I better be good for now.)

(via Sony Ericsson JP)

The phone, a Sony Ericsson W62S, was only JPY 12.000 (USD ), and after applying my points, adding on fees, I only paid around JPY 8.000. It's 3G but has no videophone, but it's OK. I was very satisfied. After all, my phone was almost an antique in digital time - it was 5 years old, from when I was going to business school.

Now I see my Taiwan phone, just a year old, but looking so old compared to the new one. And it's from the ex-boyfriend. I think I want a new phone. New boyfriend too.

I really enjoy your blog. I loved the pictures from the soba house; I don't think I've ever had soba sushi!

Also, that's a great new phone! So cute!

I'd love to find a place like that in Taipei.

Maybe you could get an iPhone?

Thanks for reading! How did you all find your way here, by the way?

I really enjoy soba because it's light in flavor and it's difficult to make. I appreciate the effort that goes into making things, including the food that makes its way onto my plate (into my bowl?).

An iPhone sounds really enticing, but I'm quite worried that I'll run out of battery power while on the job. Sometimes we're on the phone constantly. Don't think the battery is replaceable. Is there a good power solution for iPhones?

I think there are chargers available, extra batteries you plug into the bottom. Maybe it wouldn't be so suitable for you.

I found it through the Taiwan blog feed. http://taiwanfeed.com/

I'm really tempted... I hope it works with Vibo because I'm not switching carriers, no matter how bad the reception is. And I hope it won't be ridiculously expensive. My friends in Japan have been complaining about how expensive it is in Japan, compared to the US. They said something about the carrier requiring you to sign a contract as well.

About soba, I still haven't heard of a tasty soba place in Taiwan yet, but if you like udon, I hear that 土三寒六讚歧烏龍麵 is quite good. It's handmade by a Japanese guy who was almost sued because he used "讚歧" as the name of his store, and 讚歧 is a registered trademark of a food company. It's quite silly because 讚歧 is the name of a place in Japan where they make this kind of udon.

Here is someone's blog on the place, with pictures: http://tinyurl.com/6z3v4c

Registered trademark of a food company in TAIWAN, I mean.
