富饗園 Shanghai style restaurant

We did a food story there the other day. Many of the dimsum dishes they have are 1/2 off if you dine in. They hope that you'll come for the 1/2 off dishes and also order the regular-priced ones.

A good place to go if you want similar dimsum and also want to avoid the crazy line at Ding Tai Feng 鼎泰豐. This restaurant is in one of the back alleys of Yongkang Street 永康街. Not sure about the service, but I did enjoy talking with the owner and the chef while we were filming as well, so I would definitely go back there for lunch or dinner sometime.

Hee hee hee. This is only a treat. Most of the time I do silly stories. You know how it goes.

Actually, when we film food stories, we never get to taste how good it really is. All we get to do is drool during the shooting. And when we're finally done filming, we get to eat the food which has gone cold and not that tasty anymore. Some restaurants will insist on making new, hot food for us to make sure we get a taste of how good it really is, and that's nice, but I never ask for it because we end up with a ton of food that we can't finish. To get a good feel/taste of how the food really is and to write a good story, the best thing is to probably taste the food before we start filming, but that's often not a choice. Most of the time, I get handed the assignment by my editor with only a morning or afternoon to work on the story, so we usually just go straight to filming once we get to the restaurant.

It's actually really easy to make food look tasty on camera. Make it sparkle with oil, make it steam, make it jiggle, have someone bite into it and let the juices come dripping or gushing out... :D

So when's the food really good? At least for my reports, I post pictures here and write that they're tasty, if I think they are.

Bon appetite!
