This is where it starts and where we're getting on in a few minutes.

Had a quick trip over to Taiwan from Korea last week and got to ride the High Speed Rail for the first time.

The scenery and ambiance on a slower moving train cant be beat, but the high speed rail sure was nice in terms of the amount of time it took to get from Taipei --> Kaohsiung.

Where exactly does the southern link go?

Ah, the bullet train is a nice way to travel - clean and comfortable.

The Southern Link starts at Fangliao, Pingtung and ends at Taitung, Taitung. First, you get a view of the southwestern coast and the Taiwan Strait, then as it goes through the Central Mountain Range, you see mountains and a lot of darkness in the tunnels. When you clear the mountains, you're on the southeastern coast and you see the Pacific. One caveat of the train we took, though it allowed us to enjoy the view longer, there was no air conditioning. VERY HOT.
