What is the "role" of the mountain people in Taiwan? To be tourist attractions?

I think the activities they hold for tourists are a way of making money for themselves. But in addition to economic gains, I think it also has some economic value. The touristy activities aren't 100% true to their customs, but they're a chance for non indigenous people to get to know about indigenous culture, if only just a little part of it.
