Day to myself

It's been more than one month since I've had any time to myself. Today was the third day I've had off all month. But the first two days I had off, I spent at the hospital, first getting a physical and then going back for the report. The rest of the day, I spent running around the city with my mother. While it's always nice to spend time with family, it is also very draining. Especially draining in the case of my mothers (yes, both of them, but in different ways).

Today, I turned down Mom's offer for lunch, much to her disappointment and feeling a little guilty on my own side, but I'm glad I did. My neck was still hurting pretty badly, it was raining outside, my stomach still wasn't doing well and I was still tired. So all day, I napped, caught up on reading, watched bad movies on TV and deleted a lot of emails (press releases mostly, but if I accidentally deleted yours, please email again). And I babied my hand, which bruised from one of the acupuncture needles. Needles and I just don't get along.

I was actually quite bored. I couldn't do much because of my neck but couldn't stand lying in bed all day so I did laundry and vacuumed the floor in my room.

So I'm a little better rested, ready as I'll ever be for the next five (just five!) days. This week, I'm getting Thursday off, because originally, I had a business trip Friday to Monday, hiking 40 kilometers from Puli to Hualien with the minister of education. Good thing the hike was cancelled due to the roads getting washed out by the last typhoon. Hooray! Don't think my body could have taken it. I'll still have work, but at least I'll get to come home and soak in a hot bath, sleep in my warm and super comfortable bed, rather than being forced to take cold showers and going to bed in a sleeping bag on a cold and hard tent floor in the mountains.
