Flowers for Grandpa 給阿公的花
After anchoring and before Mom's birthday dinner, I had a little bit of time, so after picking out flowers for Mom at my favorite florist, I also had them make a cute little bouquet. I brought that to Grandpa (Ongg) at the hospital. Everyone was sending big ol' orchid arrangements, and I thought something small, colorful and cute would be more cheerful and fun. I think he liked it.
Took these pictures in the taxi on the way to the hospital.
It was the first time I saw him after the operation, and although he was still under a little bit of sedation, he could talk OK. He did sound a little like Darth Vadar, though. After lunch, we did a lap around the ward together. He held on to the railing on the wall like it was for his life, and walked like someone with only one leg. Then we ran into his surgeon, who said "walk normally!" and gave some other instructions, like exercises to relax his back, shoulders and torso, to wear normal shoes instead of hospital flip flops, etc. After the doctor left, Grandpa distrustingly let go of the railing, and then he just...walked! Like a normal person! Making sure he wouldn't forget, I wrote down on a piece of paper all that the doctor said and gave it to Grandpa and did a few of the exercises with him.
After a bit of chatting together with Great Aunt who's been with Grandpa the whole time, her son and grandson, another doctor came in to remove Grandpa catheter, and then he fell asleep. I had to leave, get Mom's present and get changed for dinner. Although a little heart broken to see him like this, I was relieved to know that he was recovering and in good hands.
