12/13

Twelve days down, one to go. I have the world's biggest headache and temper right now. So tired. Anchoring the 7h00 Taiwanese news after getting off the night shift and then covering the Songkran Festival live and getting drenched 12 times by kids armed with water pistols, cups, bowls, pails and buckets of water really took a lot out of me. Plus, the past couple of mornings, Roy and I were assigned to camp outside incoming Premier Liu Zhaoxuan's (pinyin) apartment building from 7h30 and to follow him wherever he goes and stick a microphone in his face whenever he appears. In order not to lose him on the road today, we ran about four traffic lights and made half a dozen more violations. Sigh. One of those trying times. And my cameraman partner is quitting. Aigh.

I thought the Songkran was supposed to wash all the bad luck away? I think the only thing it really washed away that day was all my make-up and perhaps any dignity and authority Michella Jade Weng the news anchor may have had. But since I had fun, and the audience enjoyed watching me getting chased around and hosed down and completely unable to see or hear but still trying to report between mouthfulls of water, maybe it just means that the festival really only does its magic in its native country.

Looking forward to my precious day off Thursday. Maybe the clouds will part Friday morning.
